Cafe Uno Authentic Greek Italian Restaurant
Linked by the Mediterranean Sea, where ricotta meats feta, you will find Café Uno. This non-descript eatery on Broadway in Massapequa has brought together two of Europe's most popular cuisines, Italian and Greek. Under the ownership of Mike Khanat, this quasi pizzeria has been trans-formed into an eatery which accommodates a multitude of tastes.Approximately two years ago Mike purchased this location, which was a typical pizza place without much of a reputation. Mike though, envisioned an opportunity, so, with his strong desire and his wife's self-taught culinary skills he transformed a falling business into what is now a wonderful restaurant. Totally renovating the location, this double storefront underwent a complete face-lift, from front to back. New and updated kitchen equipment was added and a total makeover of the existing dining room was accomplished. This cozy area with its high booths, neutral tones and whimsical 3-D pictures on the wall enhance the relaxed atmosphere of this establishment.Mike, who can be found here every evening, is the congenial host; he is like everyone's neighbor, friendly and easygoing. His wife Alia, is present most days and is responsible for the wonderful Greek far, from the homemade hummus, baba ghnaoush, spanakopita and kafta kebabs all the way through to the sumptuous Baklava. Alia does it all. They do employ a chef as well, who handles the Italian cuisine with the same heartfelt passion as exemplified by Alia. Our interest that eventing focused on the Greek side of the menu with a starter entitled the "Café Uno Mezza Patter", mezza meaning little tastes or appetizers. Let me inform you, there was nothing little about this starter, or as we came to realize about any of the dishes served here.
